Jun 20, 2019 at 10:38 AM by Honor Moorman

Reflect on your learning from Module 7 and respond to the following questions:

  • How will you guide students in using Social Innovation Resources including the tools for Identifying Root Causes, Theory of Change diagram, Asset Map, and/or Elevator Pitch to support the planning, implementation, and evaluation of their social innovation projects?
  • How will you help students find or create a support network for their social innovation projects?

Please read and respond to at least 1 of your colleagues’ reflections.

Next, you can level up to Module 7 Investigator, or jump ahead to Module 8.

To guide my students, I would use: TEACH - PRACTICE- APPLY. I will also  have them journal , I have found it helps in becoming a critical and innovative thinker. Writing will also support the students with their outcomes.

I would research my students project, find and share resources for creating.  I would help ensure my students develop needs skills to be successful with their project.

I would guide my students by having them follow a structured approach that helps them understand the significance of each tool and how it ties into planning, implementation, and evaluation of social innovation. I could show some examples of successful social innovation projects to highlight the importance of strategic planning and impact evaluation.

I could help my students identify potential mentors, such as educators and point them to local non-profits  that share similar goals.

I like this approach! Using the TEACH - PRACTICE - APPLY framework will help guide your students through the process of learning and applying new skills.

I will guide students in using the Social Innovation Resources by walking them through each tool step by step. For example, we can use Root Cause Analysis to explore the problem deeply, create a Theory of Change diagram to plan how actions lead to impact, develop an Asset Map to identify community resources, and practice an Elevator Pitch to clearly communicate their project ideas. These tools will help students plan, implement, and evaluate their projects in a structured and meaningful way. To help students find or create a support network, I will encourage them to connect with peers, teachers, local organizations, and community members who can provide guidance, resources, and feedback. I will also facilitate mentorship opportunities and collaborative check-ins so students feel supported throughout their projects.

I like your TEACH–PRACTICE–APPLY approach because it gives students a clear structure while allowing them to build skills through hands-on experience. Journaling is a great idea too, as it helps students reflect, think critically, and track their growth throughout the project. I also agree that providing resources and guidance is key to helping students gain the skills they need to succeed and make a real impact with their projects.
