Project plan
We are going to talk about waste and what we can do to fix the problems we are having.
- 1. Engage with our idea, have questions, and challenges
- 2. Solution, Implementation, evaluation
- 3. Investigate, with our questions, activities we can come up with to make a plan/resources and last analysis our plan.

What kind of plan we can come up with?
Where do we start?
We have so much waste everyday that keeps growing. We need to find ways to recycle.
So, we came up with making available bends for everyone to put their trash in to separate it. As we know this is so hard for people to do but, even if we can offer a refund on plastic that would be something to get them interested.
This is the start of our plan and we plan to grow with it.

I would like to do a Plastic Cup Recycling Project
- Students will collect data to determine how many plastic cups the school uses.
- Students will research and provide a sketch of what they would do with their plastic cups these can include, making artwork out of them, taking them to a recycling center, reusing the cups, making a new project out of them. This is based upon what students research and decide to do.
- Students will create their designs by working in groups.
- Students will show their projects to the class or the principal and explain why theirs is the best option.
Hey Katelyn! I really like this project idea. I also mentioned working in groups for my project. I think that ideas like this are really good for students to grasp why things like this are so important and also teach them how to reuse things.
I like how you will be having the students either turn the recycled cups into art or something they decide.

I would like to do Bottle Caps Art Recycling Project.
- 1. Students will collect various of sizes and colors of bottle caps.
- 2. Students will them research examples and provide a sketch of what they would like to create with their bottle caps.

- 4. Students will explain the purpose of this activity and what they created.

I will be having my class complete the toilet roll bird feeder. Since I will be working with kindergartens I feel like this is a simple project idea that they could do and actually understand. This project also teaches students about recycling and how it can help the planet. Before starting I will have them watch a video on recycling.
Plan: Since this is a simple project it will probably only take an hour or 2. So first I will ask everyone to go home and collect at least one toilet roll that has no toilet paper on it. I will ask if they have extra to bring it in as well. Then I will spread peanut butter on a plastic plate for the students to roll the toilet paper roll on until it is covered. Each student has their own plate. Then the students will come up one by one and pick which feed they want to use on their bird feeder and I will put some onto the plate. Lastly, I will tie strings on them and we will go outside and place them around the school. The students will get to decide where they place their bird feeder. We will come back together and have a discussion about why recycling is better for the planet.

This is such a cute project that will teach the students a lot.
We did this in arts and children and it was so much fun. It allows students to be creative as well as learn about recycling.
I like your questioning strategies to help guide student learning. This could easily be brought into a project format where students use their discussions to create something.

I would love to do something that I have seen a lot of recently; recycling/reusing paper!
- Have the students take some old and unused newspapers and/or school papers (send out a newsletter too to ensure nobody is taking anything important).
- Have students decide what they are going to do with the new paper, and if they choose to put anything extra in it. New notebooks? Paper for future projects? It is up to them.
- Work in groups of 3-4 to do the actual project.
- Based on the students' decision, if they decided to make new art, display the art. If they chose just to make something new, then letting them show their work in a picture or something, then allow them to take it home.
I like how you will have your students working in a group of 3-4. I think this is a great number for a group project.
I like how you let the students choose what they add to the paper.
I love how you are pairing your students into groups and how you are giving them the experience of using newspapers.

I really like this idea of taking old unused paper and recycling it to make some new. I think that if we can use old unused items in our class to help our students learn then we should do it! I hope to be able to recycling projects similar to this with my students one day. Great idea!
This would be a very awesome eye-opening and engaging project for the students.

Recycling water bottles. This project will help students gather information, use thinking skills, work on teamwork, and show their project to the school.
- The students will gather the information of how many water bottles were used that month in the school/home.
- The students will decide how they want to use the water bottles. It could be artwork, recycling them, or coming up with something else.
- Students will begin to group up with other students in the class and each student will have a job. (Students will pick their jobs)
- The students will put their projects up around the school for everyone to see.
I like how you are encouraging your students to learn information about water bottles and how they are going to reuse them instead of throwing them away.

My plan:
- At the beginning of every year we begin with picking out a topic together as a class. A real-world topic or problem that we can work on together.
- Throughout the year we come up with ways we can help and take the time to accomplish a couple of these activities. So the students can each be bettering the topic at hand and hopefully having fun while doing it.
- We have a daily discussion about updates on the topic recommendations on new ways to help nay new information the students come across about the topic.
- At the end of the semester/year they individually make a project in their style showing and describing to me the impact they think they have had on their topic that year.

Great post! I also think that starting with a plan and having students grow and learn with it is a great way to go especially since they can research and find new information about the topic.
How to Improve the Lives of those with Disabilities:
- I would begin by asking my students if they think our school is handicap accessible for those with disabilities.
- If there are areas within the school that they mention may be unsafe or aren't disabled friendly I would encourage them to begin within their group coming up with ideas of what we could change to make it disabled friendly.
- Then I would have students begin to design their idea and with the rest of the class have a discussion on whether or not they feel this idea is feasible and will work.
- At the end when we have agreed on ways to make the school more handicapped friendly we can see about actually implementing these ideas into our school and making these changes in hopes of making our school more accessible for those with disabilities.
Yes, this is such a huge issue that needs to be discussed and get new ideas on ways to improve.
I really like this idea. A lot of times places don't know their facility is difficult for people with disabilities and it needs to be brought to their attention.
I want to do a recycling pot project.
Students will collect household items that they think they will be able to use as pots. They will bring them into school and we will talk about how we can reuse each item. Once the students decide on their final item they want to use as a pot. They students will be able to paint and decorate their pot. Then one day we will go outside and add dirt and plant their own plant. Then over the rest of the school year they will water them and watch the grow.
That is a very cool idea and I think that students would enjoy it.
I love this idea I think it leaves the door open to a lot of essential questions and it will allow your students to have a deepening learning process. would this be something done individually and in groups?
my class project will be to be thankful for what we have and to learn not to be wasteful
first : I will ask my students what they are thankful for
second : I will explain to them that everyone doesn't have a resource that we have and show videos explaining what that is
third: we will get into groups of 3-4 and they will have to pick a resource that didn't come to mind when I asked them what they are thankful for and come up with facts and do research on how every country doesn't have the same opportunity as us in the USA.
lastly: we will create a food drive box for people in need.
this activity is to spread awareness to all grades level and let them know that you should be thankful . Everyone isn't as lucky as others.

I will have student recycle plastic.
- They can use any kind of plastic that they have recycled over the past month to create an art piece and they can create anything they would like.
- They will create their piece with a group and the piece will be placed somewhere around the school.
- The students will understand that they have created something out of nothing basically and they used some peoples trash and created a piece of art that everybody in the school will look at.

The crayon art project is a really good project and I would like to use this in my classroom one day too.
Project Plan:
I like the idea of doing a project that allows students to come up with a solution to a problem (ex pollution) and determine a way they can help solve it and create a poster presentation about it. If they wish to further their projects we could take the steps to do so.
My future class project will be soda cans recycling.
I think this will be a friendly competition where the student each month that collects the most tabs wins a prize. In NC we have church organizations that use them for art projects or sell them for money to put back into the community. I believe this will teach kids about recycling and allow them to have a fun competitive moment.

Since I will be teaching a Visual Arts course, I would like to do a recycled art project because I think it would tie in nicely with a sculpture unit and they can be put on display around the school.
- I would display the essential questions for the unit, and we would have a initial discussion to get their critical thinking going but to also activate their prior knowledge of the concept of sculptural art.
- We would go through a variety of movements and the historical significance of different sculptors from different backgrounds, races, etc. with discussions mixed throughout.
- They will take their own notes throughout the lesson (When notes are put in your own words, they can be easier to understand).
- I would assign the recycled art projects with the only restrictions being that the materials were once used (washed out if necessary) and nothing is purchased to allow for creative freedom.
I will have my students make art out of recycled goods. As for this activity, I will make fish out of juice boxes and newspaper for the spikes. This is an activity to have students spark their creativity as they can be given the supplies and a little guidance but have them explore the materials and create THEIR artwork as it will differ from each student. I will collect juice boxes from snack time earlier in the day to show students how we can use the things we typically recycle.
Paula, I love your crayon idea, as not only is this a social issue, but it goes down into behaviors with the aspect of sharing.
I would like to reduce water waste. Through this, I will have students track their water usage, and the amount they can save through:
- turning off water when brushing teeth
- not letting water run for several minutes before shower
- shorten shower time
- making sure the washer is full of clothes before doing a load
The students also must come up with one personal way they can conserve water in their own lives, making them think critically and problem solve creatively. This also shows students that there are more efficient ways to live, changing their perspective to be more environmentally friendly.

I think this is a great project idea! This is something that students often use and waste, and it shows them how easy and fun recycling can be.

I plan to introduce the topic of reduce, reuse, and recycle. Students will be put to the task of recycling as many items as possible. Reducing the amount of water and electricity they use. Then reuse whatever it is they can
-Make sure they turn off the light when they leave a room.
-Make sure they use as little water as possible, like when they brush their teeth (wet brush and turn water off).
-Students will see if they can recycle and use any old containers to create something new.
Students will be asked to choose to use a reusable water bottle for a week and calculate how many bottles of water they have avoided throwing away. Or they can create something from recycled objects.

I love your idea of reducing the use of water. Children are bad about using an extensive amount of water because they do not understand the concept of reducing water use.

In my class we have been working on presentations about weather and the students seem to love it. For this project I would get them to research our community and those surrounding and learn about the different places/people that require special equipment like ramps, elevators, etc. in order to go places and do things.
I know there are many groups and corporations within our community that go to homes and businesses to build and reconstruct ramps and different things that disabled people need.
On the poster that the students will present, I would like for them to find a place or someone who is in need of something like this. It would be very beneficial for them to see the diverse needs around them.
My Class is going to do a Crayon Recycle Project
- We have looked at the Crayon Project and wanted to bring it to our class and hope to inspire others at our school next year.
- Plan for my Kinders includes - they earn Dojo points as part our classroom management, as they 'need' a new crayon, they can redeem a point they have earned for a new crayon, and place their well-loved one in the recycle bin. At the start of May, we will sort the crayons and prep them. Then using the molds the class selected, I will recycle the well-loved crayons into new ones. My current Kinders will create welcome to the "Almondjoys" cards for next years class to leave with the new crayons.
- We have discussed how recycling the well-loved crayons keeps them from being wasted and also how they are earning points to get new ones.
- They are very excited about this project and I will also be making a digital footprint of the process to share with others.
I love this idea and it's so easy to do. Students can learn to act of reusing at an early age. Students will have access to things that they need as they discover the concept of reusing.
This is a great project for your class. I like the idea of teaching the students of reusing and how you are continuing this for each years class.

For my project-based learning plan, I will have my students come up with a future business and create a business plan through a template and do hands on learning to show how finances work, teamwork etc. My students will work together to see who can come up with the most efficient business.
They will have many different templates that they will have to work together to fill out and implement. Their businesses can also be based on a topic that is relevant to today's issues like the climate change, recycling, etc.
After implementing their businesses that would contribute to a better future, they will post their ideas around the school for all students to learn about.
I like the idea of having the students come up with a future business. This will help the students develop these skills and have fun while doing it.
I like how you are having students come up with their own business. This allows those who may want to run a business the chance to see if that this is something they want to do.
This is a great plan that implements hands on learning and experience for the students to prepare for the future.
I love this idea! It allows students to start recycling objects at an early age and could lead to a new group that want to protect the environment.

- I will allow my students freedom to come up with their own plan at the beginning of the year. I will make sure that this plan is something that will help the community as a whole and something that has a challenging goal we as a class can work for. I will provide examples such as recycling projects, the crayon project, a community drive, and other tasks that have been know to impact a community. The class will collaborate and come up with a new idea that they feel will impact their community.
- I will have them document their progress. Use new technology tools that they may not have previously been exposed to, and collaborate with members of the community.
- After the school year is finished we will come together as a class, and host a presentation to Admin and parents as to how our project progressed over the year, and the impact we made on our community. The presentation alone will help our local community come together to celebrate the impact we as a class made on our community.

Will, I think that this is an amazing idea. Each student will have followed the same template, but come up with a completely different idea. This plan builds teamwork and collaboration amongst classmates, and builds social skills.

I really like your project idea. I think that it is really sweet for you to allow the students to create cards for the next group of students to use. I think that the students would really enjoy this because it allows for them to do something nice for another group of students. The crayon project could also save money as well because you wouldn't have to keep buying new crayons each year. Wonderful project idea!

A project idea that I would love to do would be a Make A Difference project!
The project would allow for students to show them doing a kind act for someone or something in the community, school, family member, or student choice. I would provide students the time in class to plan and think about what they want to do. We would look for ways to do these kind acts that they choose or brainstorm ideas so it would allow for them to think it through, and then they would go out and do these act with pictures for proof. I would then have students reflect on what they did and how it made a difference for a person or the area they did it for. I think it gives students complete control on their approaches and the things that they want to do in this project as well. I could come up with more detail but I honestly would need to sit around and reflect on what more I could have students do. I overall want students to pinpoint issues in their communities that they live in everyday and come up with way they would fix it, it causes students to want to make their communities better.

I actually really love this idea because I think with most recycled project, they will probably get thrown away eventually. However, you are creating a cycle that allows for continued use over many years. Yes, you have to keep a stock of new ones but they will essential live out their life instead of being thrown away when they are broken or drive down to stubs. You also leave a surprise behind to surprise the next class wish they will enjoy.
I would like to do a project in which the students will get as many bottle caps as they can. It doesn't matter the size or the color and we will make it a competition and see who can obtain the most bottle caps within a month. The winner will receive a small prize. I know an organization out of Texas that collects bottle caps and it helps to pay for someone's dialysis in need. I would start by showing them what is the reason behind why they are collecting them and what dialysis means and why it is so important. I would also help with collecting bottle caps to show them that it is also important to me so it should be somewhat important to them. I would let them do their own research on the topic as well and get some knowledge on the subject.

The Project I would like to do is based on deforestation.
I will allow the kids to list suggested areas in our local communities, and they will reach how much of our forest has been lost. I will only guide them with the essential questions. What do you think deforestation looks like in your area? How has it affected the wildlife environment? How has it benefited the human environment? What changes can be made? In other questions, they are free to explore. The students will be doing this project in small groups, and they will have to present a solution for that area that can work for me and maybe a board of fellow staff. I want them to learn that the environment matters, and yes, having a fast food restaurant on every corner is nice, but what about the cute little deer.

I think collecting bottle caps is fantastic. It is a convent and doesn't cost much money. After you do it in your class, I could also suggest that you make it a school-wide event to see how much you can raise. I have never heard of a company that does that, and I would like to look into it more. Your idea is a great project idea.

~For my project I will have students collect broken crayons or unwanted crayons they no longer desire to keep and wish to throw away. Instead of throwing them away I will have them collect them in a big box in the classroom. At the end of a certain period (not determined yet) I will melt all these crayons together to create new crayons in many shapes and forms to donate to places where students are in need of these resources. I will show students how sustainable it is for the world and nice it is to give to those in need. I will let students research on how this is a positive impact for the world.

~Hi Brooklyn Your idea sounds amazing and it is for a great cause. Many might see the bottle caps as a trash but students can pay attention and find meaning in little things in life.
