I plan on implementing "take action for sustainable well-being"
My idea and plan for implementation is a project at the end of a Global Hunger unit that I designed. Throughout the unit, we read articles, watched videos, and discussed the reasons behind the global hunger issue, the effects of hunger and malnutrition, and the solutions that organizations have come up with to combat the issue. As a culminating project to demonstrate their understanding, student choose from the following projects:
- volunteer in the community garden
- participate in a campus clean up and beautification here at our school
- volunteer at a food bank or food drive
- create a PSA to educate peers about the issues associated with global hunger
- create a brochure to educate the community on the importance of not wasting food
- create an infographic to educate the community about worldwide global hunger
That's a wide range of choices! How will you support that many different projects?
I love the several different choices , great idea.
Hi Kate! I love how you added a wide range of choices to chose from.
Hi, Kate, I feel like your project is a great idea. I also believe that the order of your project is important. Showing your students videos of hunger issues can really impact students to participate in these projects. They will feel motivated to make a great change with the activities you have prepared. They will feel compassionate for the less fortunate and will want to make a great change.
Hey class, I am struggling to make my own thread so I will post my response like this. I plan to show my students they can make a change to this world at any age. I can introduce them to local volunteering places they can help out with. This will be open to the rest of the school and classes to do as well.
My plan will be to take my students on field trips to places they can volunteer at. Also, by giving them writing assignments that involve volunteering.
After reading Kates's post, I have more ideas to do with my future students. Instead of just talking and teaching our students things let them do it hands-on.
Hi Emily! I also am struggling to make my own thread on these discussion boards! I love that you are going to incorporate volunteering into your students lives.

Today, many High school students complain that school does not teach them how to live in the real world. For example, that it does not teach them how to pay bills, pay taxes or buy houses. One thing that I plan to implement in my classroom is real-world lessons that teach students how to do many of these things. I believe that these lessons will give students an idea of how to do some of these things.
- Give students scenarios of real-world people with a salary and have them investigate the cost of necessities.
- I also plan to create a fake bill and show them step by step how to pay for their house bill.

One new idea that I would love to implement is outside classtime. I feel like throughout school you spend most of your days inside instead of outside. There are way too many pretty days to be put to waste when we can have class outside.
I feel that implementation is very important I plan to have certain days for outside class depending on weather and the activities that we plan to do.
I agree with the concept of preparing students for the real world after high school through learning more about managing finances! My high school Personal Finances class participated in an online Budget Challenge, which was a several month simulation where students covered all of their own expenses and had to budget out savings accordingly. We had to write checks, budget for each week, account for random emergency situations, and much more. It was incredibly beneficial and I believe implementing something similar would prove valuable for students.
Hi Angelica,
I completely agree that schools need to do a better job about teaching real world scenarios. I personally want to change that in my lessons to take time and show students what will be expected in the 'real world' and how to become financially independent.
I would implement a classroom garden! We as a class could learn about planting flowers and different types of veggies. We will discuss the process of watering, photosynthesis and how sunlight plays a huge role in growth! This incorporates a lesson and teaches students a valuable skill. This also goes along with sustainability and well-being. It would be a great classroom project to watch evolve throughout the year! I think students would love digging in the dirt and taking home their own plant at the end!
I love this idea it also supports my idea for oustide classtime.
Kate, I love that you mentioned volunteering! Students should begin learning about volunteering at a young age. This was prioritized at my school, and I am glad that I learned such a valuable lesson early on.
Katie,
I like the wide range of choices you have.
Personally, even during college, I am unsure and worrisome about living on my own within the next few years. In saying this, this is not a concern of my future career, but in real life, every day factors that I will have to embark upon. This includes taxes, bills, mortgages, credit and so much more. Within my own future classroom one day, I plan to integrate these life skills into lessons in order to allow my students to have a basic knowledge of this before being on their own one day. For example, math lessons can include how to use a checkbook or bank account in general by understanding how to manage money.
Hi Kate! I like how you have so many examples within your plan to use in your future classroom.

Something that I have learned that I could incorporate into my classroom for global competences is examining local, cultural and intercultural in my class. I plan on using this by involving things from different cultures in the students assignments.
Hi Kate, I like all of the example you have but I really like the volunteering at community garden and food bank or drive.
I would love to come up and follow along with a specific culture or event monthly in my classroom. I would first introduce it through fill in the blank notes or some presentation. I will incorporate activities throughout the weeks and have a large activity once monthly. This will allow for students to gain knowledge on a culture/event as well as participate in things that may take place.
Since I don't exactly have a classroom just yet, I thought I'd mention some future plans I'd like to implement. I have in the past been a part of an international club myself, and I feel as though I always learned the most through what we called "conversation hour". I'd like to implement an international club - if possible - in a school, since not many around here have them, then implement something similar where someone from a different culture/country could come in and speak around once a week. Along with this, the club would allow for more possibilities as far as interaction among students of different cultures in a safe environment, and multicultural experiences of different kinds.

- I would like to introduce an innovator of the month to my school in order for students to feel inspired by their ideas. This would be on a bulletin board somewhere as well as implemented through presentations in classroom lessons. Students would be able to explore new jobs or content in which they may become interested. They may also find ways to help the community in similar ways.

Inspiration of the Week!
2. Describe your idea and your plan for implementation.
- Pick one person for the week who was an innovator
- Research them individually and as class
- Incorporate them into daily activities within the school day
Students will get to learn about important innovators that lived and that are still living and look at the changes each of them made.

Katelyn,
I agree that students should have their own jobs and that having an innovator of the month allows them to be creative be productive.

- Describe your idea and your plan for implementation.
As a Physical Education major I was thinking about finding an inspirational quote and that being the quote of the week.
The plan would be to find a quote that had something to do with the lesson for that week and maybe give some insights on the person who the quote was by and why they are important.

When I become a teacher, I will be in a gym setting and because of this I will have my students write positive things that they have accomplished physically on a board so that everyone has a space to share their accomplishments.
Lawson, this is a great plan that you have implemented, and inspirational quotes are a creative way to inspire your students.

the one idea i will use in my classroom, which will be a gym, is i will let everyone each day of class get to pick something for us to warm us up, a new kid will get picked everyday and this makes it so everyone has a say and gets to do something they want at some point.
will i agree with you and love the idea of putting the accomplishments on the board so each kid can be proud of what they are learning.
- Identify at least one new idea you plan to implement in your school or classroom community.
- Implement a way to introduce cultural diversity into the classroom environment because that is the first place that students will come in contact with a diverse environment in their lifetime and it is important then and there that the students learn new things. PISA has a framework and a designed curriculum through OECD.
- Describe your idea and your plan for implementation
- I would use the provided curriculum during the beginning of the year so while the students are getting to know each other they can learn about each other's global identities.
That's an awesome plan, I said the same thing in my response as well. I think that it is very important for students to be immersed in different cultures and learn about each other's global identities.
I really enjoyed your post as well as i would like to say my aunt owns a daycare and they did a community garden and just so you know the younger kids love it. they are all for gardening it might just be like playing the dirt at first but when the fruits and vegetables grow the kids are so excited to see what they have created.

- I would like to introduce students to different cultural games and physical activity. Each week could be based off of a country and the activities they play.
I really like those that you have chosen and they all have a wide range in between, how do you plan to make them coincide.
Katie
I love the number of choices that you have on the ways to incorporate into your classroom. The littlest community event can make a big difference in your community.

One new idea I plan on implementing in the classroom would be to do more outside class time I believe that when learners are moving and learning they have a better take on education and having the goal to have the learners, learn as they move it helps to have a higher participation rate in the classroom.
I feel that implementing outside classroom time will help with developing creativity and helping with problem solving. The implementation of outside class time will also teach learners about independence and confidence.

I like the idea of focusing more on creativity. Sometimes we don't want a mess in the classroom, but that's what classroom jobs are for (which is also a great idea for innovation) so let students get messy and be as creative as they want to in their learning. I think it is more likely to be something the understand and remember this way.
Kate,
I love the many different options you have listed in how you want to both socially and globally be innovative. I also like how you will do this with your students by doing a unit plan surrounding these topics.
One classroom rule I would like to implement is relax time.
I believe if its sunny out weather its cold or hot to step outside for even 5 minutes and take a deep breath have a relaxation moment.
If it is raining we take 5 minutes to listen to meditation music allowing for people to decompress and bring them back let stress melt away.
Or do yoga time on days we can spare do 10 minutes of yoga, meditation or have a talk where you can vent about anything going on allowing for students to tell their problems with no judgement or criticism.
Awesome choices! Changing our communities is a great way to teach students about our changing world.
Our community has recently had an increase in the number of homeless. Our schools can create care bags and collect food for our local food bank.
Students can brainstorm and create flyers for every grade level to bring in food.
I like to make it a completion to see what grade level brings in the most food.
Students work together to organize food into boxes.
Take a trip to deliver and help fill the shelves at our local pantry.
I love your ideas on bringing this to your community, as these are some creative examples. I also love how you broke it down into grade levels.

- Identify at least one new idea you plan to implement in your school or classroom community.
I have an idea to connect the schools in the area to have a competition for volunteering. This way, parents and students can meet new people while helping the community.
- Describe your idea and your plan for implementation.
Some ideas for this is to get students involved in many areas of service, not just one, as this can also help with collaboration and social skills. I plan to have them watch videos about how service to others can benefit them.
I think it is a great way to give the students more than one choice to pick from.
- Identify at least one new idea you plan to implement in your school or classroom community.
- I think the 6 Cs are a great way to implement classroom cooperation. I think Character is the most slept on idea. Students need to feel safe, respected, and confident in a learning environment to fulfil their potential. When students feel like they don't belong or not good enough is when they stop trying and pull away.
- Describe your idea and your plan for implementation.
- I want to make sure my students know that I am always there for them and implement an open door policy whether they need help with a homework problem or just need to talk about life.

I'm excited to introduce a new project in my classroom called "Community Problem-Solving Project." In this project, students will work together to identify a local social or environmental issue and develop a solution. We'll start by discussing examples of community projects and brainstorming potential issues, like homelessness or environmental conservation. After researching the chosen issue, students will work in groups to develop a solution, such as creating a community garden or organizing a fundraising event. They'll then create a plan for implementation, assign roles, and set a timeline. Throughout the process, students will reflect on their progress and evaluate their solution's effectiveness. Finally, they'll share their project with the community, presenting their findings and outcomes. I believe this project will not only empower my students but also teach them valuable skills like teamwork and critical thinking.
I am in the midst of a project with my Speech and Debate class in which they must interview someone with a different perspective and write a podcast about how that person's past shaped their perspective. It's really challenging for my students! They've never been required to truly try to understand someone else; they just want to explain why they are right.
Since I teach Kindergarten, I'm going focus on Global Citizenship and begin with making connections. I'm fortunate to have a student from Africa and one from Ethiopia - we can look at common things in their lives - such as water, food, school and home. Then look at the differences and continue to build their knowledge.

The ideas I want to implement in my community are poverty and inequity. To bring light to these issues, I plan on creating virtual events with guest speakers from around the globe. Prior to the virtual meeting, we could have group discussion about the particular ideas. We would then have the meeting, ask questions, etc. A follow-up meeting would be put in place as we discuss solutions for our community and communities across the board.

The ideas that i want to be implementing in my future classroom is culture diversity and making connections. Culture diversity is very important to implement inside the classroom. Every student is different and should feel respected and included to feel safe while learning. Also making connections is important to keep students engaged and taking part in important discussions.
Hi Emily -
I noticed you want to implement the 'ideas of culture diversity and making connections.' How would you implement those differently than what is currently done and using a more global stage?
Emily, I agree about making the connections culture diversity. Its very important.
Global Citizenship for Kindergarten is very important. Looking at common things within their lives also helps them ground the information to remember what they learned.
Making connections with common things is a great idea to help students understand the topic.
Hi class,
I would love to plan once a month, learning about a different culture. For example in we are learning about Mexico I would would:
- Power point on topic
- Have the foods for that culture
- Have the student to research their own information to see if they come up with something different.
- Even have the student to do an interview of someone.
Hello my name is Christina Cassidy ,I was also struggling with figuring out how to make a post for the discussion , from this I would like to practice helping other around us to adapting to new environment's especially when they are either out of state or continents. Offering assistance to place either around the school to help show and make new students comfortable or even places off campus to aware the students of what's around them.

I am going to implement cultural diversity into my classroom. I think it is very important to teach children about cultural diversity in the world. I will come up with a PowerPoint that explains what cultural diversity is and about the different cultures. Then I would have people come in and talk about their experiences.

Sandar, I love how you would implement culture into your classroom. You came up with some very great ways to teach the students about different cultures.

Sandra, I liked how you would implement cultural diversity in your classroom as well as cool and fun things that help represent the culture.
My plan on implementing the school or classroom is not only to make students know that their voice and opinions are important. But to make it a zero-tolerance for bullying because that seems to be increasing a lot. I also would like to teach students courses that will be valuable throughout their lives such as doing their taxes, reading a W2, setting up a 401k and the benefits and so much more. Implementing to me is making a change for the greater good of the school, students, parents, and the community.

One new way I plan on implementing in my classroom is a clean-up or PTO clean-up. Every other Saturday or once a month, invite my students and their parents to clean the school area, playground or etc. It would be a great bonding experience and I would even implement a lesson to go along with it. I would offer a reward or party for my students who want to come out.
I believe that schools can make an important difference. They are the first place where children encounter the diversity of society. They can provide students with opportunities to learn about global developments that affect the world and their own lives. They can teach students to develop a fact-based and critical worldview and equip students with an appreciation of other cultures and an awareness of their own cultural identities. I plan to teach my students about other cultures and the importance of them.
One new idea I would want to implement in my classroom community would be having my students grow in their knowledge of diversity. Relating things that we are learning to not only our own experiences but others as well. Having students see things from others perspectives and learning the similarities and differences that go into that.
(Initial Post)
~One way I would implement this in my classroom would be to help students have a voice on their opinion and become more diverse in their culture knowledge.
~I would carry out this idea but letting them have a one on one discussion with me or do power points on cultures they may be interested in.
